2020 has been an epic year so far in terms of unprecedented change and transition. As we forge deeper into the transitory waters of this paradigm shift, new stressors and challenges are affecting our health and well-being, particularly because our adrenals, nervous systems and endocrine systems are trying to adjust and keep up. When the outer demand becomes more than the internal capacity, a condition yogically termed as Cold Depression can occur.
The main expression of this is numbness and insensitivity. Which then leads to reactivity, impatience, drama, frustration and inner anger.
As a result a deeper sense of disconnect happens which can then lead to a paralytic sense of dissatisfaction, isolation, loneliness, loss of meaning and chronic anxiety.
In this state, the general response to counterbalance this internal depletion is to seek outer stimulation. This can include becoming more busy, drinking more energy drinks or alcohol. Unfortunately this just creates more depletion.
Taking a technology break, spending more time in nature, slowing down and coming into the present moment or any activity or experience that is self-nurturing or brings more lightness and relaxation can be a great start. (check out the stress relief podcast for more tools)
If you resonate with meditation, check this one out. You can do it anywhere from 3 to 31 minutes.
MEDITATION TO ALLEVIATE COLD DEPRESSION:
Sit in a comfortable cross seated position or in a chair, with the spine straight.
Interlace fingers, bringing palms together and then lift and press the index fingers together creating a ‘steeple’. Thumbs cross over each other and hands are held at chest level.
Eyes are open slightly focusing on the tip of the nose.
Chant Wahe Guru Wahe Jio (pronounced Geo)
When chanting Wha focus at the navel point/Hey at the chest/Gu (as in good) at the lips. Same sequence for Wahe Jio.
To end, inhale and hold. Release all your stress, disconnect, loneliness….to the Universe. Exhale. Inhale and feel the pulse of life, feel into gratitude if you can and the preciousness of life. Let it go through your exhalation.
Relax.
Much love, light and peace
